About Transition Templates
About
Transition Templates: Pathways to Net Zero+ seeks to help organisations and communities develop practical and actionable plans for decarbonisation. We are prototyping a new four-step Transition Templates process that support collaborative capacities to envision, design, communicate, and enact energy transitions. Participatory workshops can be held online or in-person.
Transition Templates: Pathways to Net Zero+ (TT1) and Transition Templates AI and Digital (TT2) are Arts and Humanities Research Council and Future Observatory funded research projects. The initial Transition Templates project is a three year research project (2023-2026). The second project prototyped the Transition Templates method in the AI & digital sector (2025).
The TT Four-Step Process
1. Framing the System
In Step One, we create the TT Ecosystem Framework (TT-EF) based on the PEST analysis model (Politics, Economic, Social, and Technological) and map stakeholders with TT Network of Actors (TT-NoA) templates.
2. Envisioning Futures
Step Two: Envisioning Futures uses the Four Futures Framework (TT- FFF) to envision four futures (extract, sustain, restore, regenerate) in the domains identified in the sector specific TT-EF.
3. Opportunity & Strategy
Step Three: Opportunity & Strategy identifies activities to accelerate decarbonisation across levels with the Leverage Points (TT-LP) Template.
4. Adoption & Implementation
Step Four: Adoption & Implementation maps actions across current situation, short-, mid-, and long- term futures.
